  1. According to Alzheimer’s Australia, Dementia is the greatest cause of disability in older Australians today. In 2016 there were 3,635 recorded cases of dementia among Sutherland Shire residents.
  2. Every year one in twenty older residents in our community experience abuse at the hands of people they know and trust. Only one in five of these cases are identified and reported to authorities.
  3. The Garage Sale Trail has returned to the Sutherland Shire in 2017! Registrations are now open for Australia’s biggest social re-use and recycle experiment, which this year is being held over an entire weekend on Saturday October 21 and Sunday October 22.
  4. For one night only on Saturday 26 August, Sutherland Entertainment Centre presents Glorious! the three cast West End and worldwide hit play by acclaimed playwright Peter Quilter which tells the hilarious and true story of the world’s worst opera singer, Florence Foster Jenkins.
  5. The team behind the hit stage productions of The 13, 26 and 52-Storey Treehouses, The Gruffalo, and Mr Stink, bring Horrible Harriet to life on stage at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre on Sunday 20 August.


Sutherland Shire Council  is considering urgent measures to reduce its gas bill, including lowering swimming pool temperatures, increasing entry fees and cutting subsidies to swimming programs.
